Analytical Research & Development (AR&D) Division firmly reinforces the mission and vision of IPC by bringing the highest standards of drugs by publication of the Indian Pharmacopoeia editions at regular intervals. The AR&D Division continuously promulgates changes to analytical test procedures in accordance with the latest technological requirements.
The Analytical R&D Division is engaged in following functions:
IP Development and Review
- Monograph and General Chapters
- The Division is actively engaged in the development of new monographs and general chapters, and the revision/upgradation of existing monographs of APIs, formulations, and excipients for the Indian Pharmacopoeia to ensure the quality control of drugs and medicines being marketed in India.
- The Division also issues amendment lists, as and when required, based on feedback and suggestions from stakeholders and experts.
- It acts as the IPC Secretariat, developing monographs and resolving queries by working closely with Marketing Authorization Holders (MAHs), other international pharmacopoeias, and stakeholders of the Indian Pharmacopoeia.
- It coordinates meetings of various Expert Working Groups (EWGs) for the development and upgradation of the Indian Pharmacopoeia.
- Method Development and Validation
- It undertakes method development and validation of new methodologies or upgrades for the Indian Pharmacopoeia.
IP Online
- Maintains and regularly updates the content of the IP Online.
- Addressing user queries and providing timely support to stakeholders.
International Collaboration
- The Division is actively involved in collaboration and harmonization activities as part of the PDG with other international pharmacopoeias (USP, EP, JP) and the WHO as Observer.
- Bilateral collaborations with other pharmacopoeia bodies (like BP, USP, Russian Pharmacopoeia) on matters related to pharmaceutical standardization.
- Facilitates global recognition of the Indian Pharmacopoeia (IP).
Trainings, Stakeholder Interactions & Other Activities
- It imparts training to pharmacy graduates, postgraduates, and scientists to create awareness and build relevant skills.
- Organising IPC Interactive Sessions with stakeholders for awareness of IP standards and their updates.
